Tooth brush abrasion28/7/2021 Are you guilty of brushing too hard? Loving your teeth a little too much? We see patients every day that have used a toothbrush with bristle's that are too firm, and/or a heavy hand that has worn away their teeth and gums. Whilst we can use filling material to fill in these holes, prevention is always better which is why at Courtney Dental we recommend using a soft bristled toothbrush or electric toothbrush with a toothpaste that isn't abrasion. This wear on the tooth also leads to tooth sensitivity. Electric toothbrushes can come with a sensor that lets you know when your pressing too hard. We also advise against using whitening toothpastes, these are highly abrasion and cause damage very quickly. When the toothpaste is in your mouth you shouldn't be able to feel any 'grit'. If you are worried about the wear on your teeth, at your next appointment ask your dentist or hygienist to check and we can let you know what steps to take.
