Professional Team

Dr Craig Courtney

Dr Craig Courtney

He began work in private practice with Dr Paul Brice in Ayr before moving to become the Principal Dentist at Townsville Aboriginal and Islander Health Services (TAIHS), where he continued in private practice with Dr Alan Cutmore.

From there he joined the private practice of Dennis Hagarty and Keith Eriksen before establishing Courtney Dental in 1992 when he took over the practice of Dr Geoff Kelly.

He is a keen cricketer where he still plays in the local competition for Norths, loves fishing and horse racing and has 3 lovely daughters Brittany, Cadence and Amara.

David Young

Dr David Young

David graduated with Honours from the University of Queensland in 1985.

He served 20 years with the Australian Army, the first part being a scholarship. David completed a Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Surgery) at the University of Otago (New Zealand) in 1995 and was posted to Townsville on completion of the degree.

He has been with our practice since 2001. David enjoys most things but especially enjoys spending quality time with his loving wife, Derelle.

He has also been seen on the odd occasion with a fishing line.

Though there is no truth to the rumour that his appointment book is governed by tidal influences. As well as being a keen fisherman he also posses the best tennis and table tennis skills in the practice.

Nam Le

Dr Nam Le

Nam arrived in sunny Townsville in December 2006 with his wife Linda, and has been a part of Courtney Dental since January 2007.

Nam graduated from the University of Sydney Dental program in 2004 and has been in private practice in Brisbane for the previous two years.

Nam is a keen fisherman and loves all sports.

In fact Nam is the second best tennis player in the practice.

"We're loving life in Townsville. People are so friendly, love the fishing and the lifestyle." Nam is also the second best fisherman in the practice. "Go the Broncs"

Bernie Courtney

Bernie Courtney

Bernie has been working as a Dental Technician for 50 years and worked for the North Queensland Flying Dental Service.  He became a Dental Prosthetist 15 years ago and started working with his son Dr Craig Courtney.

Bernie enjoys sharing his life experiences with other staff and his patients.   Bernie enjoys watching sport and will often place a bet on his favourite team.   He also loves to spend time with his three young granddaughters.

Preventive Team

Ruth Bromham

Ruth Bromham is back at Courtney Dental for her second stint, having previously been here for 2004-2005 and rejoining us in July 2007. She graduated as a dental therapist in 1985 and worked as such for over 20 years before gaining further qualifications in dental hygiene practice and health promotion from the University of Queensland.

"I still love coming to work each day. I look forward to developing great relationships with our patients so as to enable them to maintain their teeth for life"

Ruth likes to find time to cook for friends, read, go to the movies and exercising (more of which would be good)

 Julie Norris

Julie Norris

Julie joined the team at Courtney Dental in May 2007, and thoroughly enjoys working with the children in the practice.
She is originally from Victoria, who graduated from Melbourne University in 1994 with her Associate Diploma of Applied Science, Dental Therapy.

After overseas travel and living in both Perth and Launceston, Julie with her husband and two daughters, have now made Townsville their home.

Julie enjoys most outdoor activities and socialising with both family and friends.

Nicole Marshall

Nicole joined the team in early January 2010 after completing her Dental Hygiene Course in Perth WA. Nicole was born in Brisbane but moved to Perth when she was 5 years old. She now loves living in Townsville and apparently enjoys spending all her spare time fishing as it's her partners' favourite hobby.

Talida Voinea

Talida joined the team in April 2011 after completing her dental hygiene and therapy course in Bendigo, Victoria. Talida has lived the majority of her life in Melbourne then moved to Townsville together with her husband in late 2009 and is thoroughly enjoying the warmer weather.  Talida has a keen interest in dental volunteering and has been on a number of volunteer trips to countries such as Africa and Romania.

Front Office Team

Krista Land

Krista

Krista has been with Courtney Dental since January 2004, but has many years prior experience as a Dental Assistant and then front office co-ordinator.

She is now the practice manager at Courtney Dental.

In her spare time, Krista enjoys watching football, especially her beloved Cowboys, and spending time with her partner and two dogs.

 Anna

Anna has been at Courtney Dental since 2006. After 12 months away in Melbourne (shopping we think!) Anna is back and providing assistance to Julie and also working with the Front Office Team.

Another born and bred Townsville girl, Anna graduated from James Cook University with a BA (Hons) in 2006 and finds her fast paced role as a clinical co-ordinator highly engaging and interesting.

In her spare time she enjoys a drink or two with friends, and relaxing on the Strand.

Clinical Co-ordinators

Rebecca Fogg

Rebecca

Rebecca has been at Courtney Dental since May 2003.

A born and bred North Queenslander Rebecca is the clinical director of the practice. After many years in the hospitality industry Rebecca has finally found her niche as the assistant for David Young.

Rebecca currently holds Certificate III in Dental Assisting and is keen to pursue further studies in the dental field.

Her hobbies are socialising over a beer with friends and spending time with her husband.

Cara

Cara is a born and bred Queenslander. She graduated from Ryan Catholic  College in November 2010, and joined our team the following month. Cara enjoys her challenging role as Craigs chairside assistant and also relishes the opportunity to work in both the prosthetic and hygiene surgeries. We like to think of her as a girl with many talents. In her spare time, Cara enjoys anything except reading and excerise. Cara is an die hard Cowboys supporter, and wishes to one day complete her Certificate 3.

Kushla

Kushla

Kushla joined the team as Ruths' dental assistant in July 2007.

Kushla was born in New Zealand before moving to the Gold Coast with her family as a young teenager. She began dental assisting in 1993 on the Gold Coast when a routine visit to the dentist resulted in a job offer.

Kushla has been in Townsville since 2001 and is another who loves going to cowboys games. She also enjoys taking her 2 young boys to the beach, reading, going to the movies, BBQ's and of course Ruths chocolate soufflé.

Sterilising Team

Glenda Wanless

Glenda

Glenda is our infection control co-ordinator and has been with Courtney Dental since December 2001.

Born and bred in Townsville Glenda spent many years in both Brisbane and Melbourne where she was heavily involved in Trotting.

Glenda has been a good and close friend to both Bernie and Craig for over 30 years.

When coming back home she continued her passion for horses and trained both trotters at the Willows and Showgrounds and also trained many winners at Cluden Park.

Jason Stopps

Jason

Jason is also involved in sterilising and works here part time.

He joined our practice in March 2007 and we are yet to see him anywhere but the tea room. He pays particular attention to the meticulous operation and cleaning of the coffee machine.

Jason is heavily involved in the racing industry where he is a successful full time jockey at Cluden Park. He has ridden the winners of the prestigious Cleveland Bay Handicap twice and the Parry Nissan Great Northern 2yo race.

We like to think that being a jockey is curtailing a very promising Dental nursing career.

One has to add that being around 10 or so women Jason is certainly in his element.
